What is Chiropractic?
What Makes Chiropractic Different?
Welcome to Chiropractic, a safe, scientific and effective therapy for conditions of the spine and body. Chiropractic is the largest regulated, drug-free, primary healthcare profession in the western world.
Chiropractic is a natural way of creating optimum spinal health, so that the nervous system can do its job, enabling you to overcome the negative effects of a spine that is out of condition.
Chiropractic focuses on addressing the cause of the symptoms, rather than suppressing the expression of the symptoms from the body telling you that change is needed.
Your Vital Connection
It’s a scientific fact that your brain, spinal cord and the rest of your nerves control every aspect of your body. It is the centre of your thoughts, memory, learning and consciousness. Your muscles, blood vessels, glands and internal organs and systems need a healthy nervous system to function properly.
Hinder the vital nerve links between your brain and your body, and ill-health can result. A common source of interference comes from the moving bones that encase the “information superhighway” of your spinal cord.
Nerve pressure can cause numbness, weakness or the under-performance of organs & tissues. Spinal misalignment can cause nerve tissue to stretch, chafe or become irritated. This can distort nerve messages between your body and your brain.
A thorough examination helps locate areas of nervous system compromise. Then, specific Chiropractic adjustments help to reduce these interferences. The intent is to restore your body’s ability to regulate and heal itself. Without drugs. Without surgery.
The nerve can get irritated when there is a misalignment of one or more vertebrae resulting in altered joint motion and nerve irritation. Such interference can then affect communication throughout the nervous system and if left unchecked or unresolved, can alter the body’s natural state. This promotes a decline in health, resulting in sickness and disease.
How Does Chiropractic Differ?
There is a significant and very important difference between the way Chiropractors and traditional medicine approach health ailments.
When evaluating and treating patients, Chiropractors take a holistic approach that includes identifying and correcting the cause(s) of the patient's health ailment. In contrast, the medical approach tends to focus more on the treating the symptoms of a condition rather than focusing primarily on the actual cause(s).
Chiropractors believe that correcting the cause of the problem provides significant long-term benefits over only treating the symptoms.
Spinal joints that are “locked up”, fixated or not moving right can affect your health by “choking” or irritating nearby nerve tissue. Chiropractic adjustments add motion to these areas. This helps restore nervous system integrity and can improve the healing process.
Like an experienced piano tuner, your Chiropractor has become a master at fine-tuning the way your spine works. There are many ways to adjust the spine. Sometimes the Chiropractors hands deliver a quick highly accurate thrust. Or an instrument directs a repeatable force to a fixated spinal joint.
Other times a slow, constant pressure is used. Special tables with moving sections are also used to help take pressure off the nerves.
Several areas of the spine may be adjusted, or just one.
The key is to use the precise amount of energy. At the exact spot. In the right direction. At just the right time, to get spinal joints moving again. Chiropractic
is truly an art. Your Chiropractor has become a master at one or more adjusting techniques.
Just about anyone can be adjusted. Newborns, infants, children & seniors.
Adjustments differ according to the age of the patient.
What Does Chiropractic ‘Treat’?
Well technically Chiropractic doesn’t ‘treat’ anything. It lets your body do the ‘treating’, because it happens to be the best doctor! Chiropractic simply helps remove the nerve interference which lets your body work better.
Because Chiropractic treatments are primarily applied to the spinal region, many individuals incorrectly assume that Chiropractors treat only back and neck ailments. While we do quickly and effectively eliminate back and neck pain, it's not the only goal. The objective is to restore and optimize human health.
