Chiropractic & Neck Pain
Posted on: 19/06/2012 @ 9:34am
Your neck supports the weight and movement of your head. It also contains the vast majority of nerves that connect from your brain to the rest of your body. With the amount of driving, computer work and other daily activities that most of us do, it is not surprising that we need a little Chiropractic care to keep our necks working properly.
Neck pain can be caused by the long-term effect of poor posture from bending, repetitive lifting or manual work. Losing the proper movement in the joints of your neck may interfere with the healthy working of the nerves that run through it causing irritation to these nerves. This, in turn, can lead to pain where the nerves end - ‘referred pain’ - which can cause pain in the arms and hands.
When these bones are misaligned, pressure can be put on sensitive nerves causing serious problems. Pain is a signal to tell us that some-thing is wrong.
How Can Chiropractic Help'
Chiropractors are specifically trained to locate and correct spinal misalignments that cause nerve irritation. In a thorough consultation & examination, including x-rays if necessary, a doctor of chiropractic can often find the underlying cause and through a schedule of chiropractic adjustments, realign the spine.
What Makes Chiropractic So Different'
The focus of traditional health care is on germs and blood. Chiropractic produces results by helping your nervous system work the way it should.
Nerve pressure can cause numbness, weakness or pain. Spinal misalignment can cause nerve tissue to stretch, rub or become irritated. This can distort nerve messages between your body and your brain. The result' Abnormal organ function, muscle injury or even pain.
The medical approach puts chemicals into your bloodstream to change the way your body works. Besides the side effects drugs often ignore the real cause of the problem.
Instead the focus of chiropractic is on the integrity of your nervous system.
A vertebral subluxation is the term used to describe misalignment of one or more vertebrae resulting in altered joint motion and nerve irritation. Such interference can then affect communication throughout the nervous system and if left unchecked or unresolved, can alter the body's natural state. This promotes a decline in health, resulting in sickness and disease.
Muscles go into spasm. Spinal bones lock up. And adjacent nerves are choked or irritated. This interferes with the control and regulation of your body. This garbles communications between the brain and parts of your body.
A thorough examination helps locate areas of nervous system compromise. Then, specific chiropractic adjustments help reduce these interferences. The intent is to restore your body's ability to regulate and heal itself. Without drugs. Without surgery.
